Uber Eats says more than 7.2 million orders were placed in Connecticut through the online food-delivery app in 2019.

A division of the online transportation service Uber, Uber Eats announced Friday that most of the orders made in Connecticut this year were placed along the southern belt of the state in towns and cities including Fairfield, Norwalk and New Haven, where the app launched in 2016.

Fairfield’s Garden Catering, known for its chicken, was the most common venue requested by 20,230 Nutmeggers in 2019, Uber Eats said.

The other most frequent Uber Eats hotspots included: Cody’s Diner in New Haven (19,521 orders); Duchess Restaurant (17,194) and Post Road Diner (16,358) in Norwalk; Andros Diner in Fairfield (15,950); and Garden Catering’s location in Stamford (14,545).

Hartford-based Bear’s Smokehouse BBQ, part of Bear’s Restaurant Group, ranked No. 7 with 14,451 Uber Eats orders, and Wood-N-Tap restaurant in Hartford ranked No. 8 with 14,307 orders.

Rounding out the top 10 for the most orders included The Simple Greek in Norwalk (13,700) and Frankie’s Diner in Bridgeport (13,345).

Uber Eats, the largest online food delivery business outside of China, also said Connecticut patrons were most likely to order french fries, poke bowls, pad thai or bacon, egg and cheese sandwiches on the app.

The delivery business has been a bright spot for the cash-strapped Uber empire, which lost $5.2 billion in the second quarter of 2019. The staggering loss was fueled, in part, by $3.9 billion in stock-based compensation expenses related to its public offering in the quarter.
