Who doesn’t dream of owning a private island off the coast?
An island getaway in Branford’s Thimble Islands chain sold last week, becoming the town’s highest sale to date for 2020.
Potato Island, which features a 3,781-square-foot house, a pool and scenic water vistas, sold on Sept. 8 for $4.2 million.
John Campbell, listing agent with Page Taft-Christie’s International Real Estate’s Madison office, represented the seller.
“It’s not very often that a property of this caliber, let alone one on a private island, hits the open market,” Campbell said.
Campbell noted the property offered privacy and 360-degree water views, while still being close to metropolitan areas such as New York City.
“The island truly is what many would consider to be a dream home,” Campbell said.
The property, named for its shape, had been owned by Katherine Kahan of New York City since 1997, and the new owner is New Albany Island LLC, according to the Branford Assessor’s office.
The Secretary of the State’s Office lists the principals of New Albany Island LLC as Marc and Faustine Badrichani of New York City. He is an executive at JP Morgan Chase, and she is an artist.
The island property had been listed for sale at $4.9 million. It features four bedrooms, three full and one half bathrooms, a heated pool, hot tub, boat facilities, deep water dock and a wrap-around porch. It can be accessed by a two-minute boat ride from the Stony Creek section of Branford.
Potato Island gained some fame last year when it was selected as a finalist in the “Waterfront Homes” category of HGTV’s Ultimate House Hunt 2019. The annual promotion features homes for sale in various categories, including Amazing Kitchens, Big City Digs, Countryside Retreats, Curb Appeal, Homes with a History, Modern Masterpieces, Outdoor Escapes and Waterfront Homes.
