A Maryland-based applicant is looking to open a cannabis retail center along Whitney Avenue in Hamden, which would be the third such storefront in that vicinity.
Jananii LLC, and operator Jusmin Patel, of Clarksbury, Maryland, has filed an application with the Hamden Planning and Zoning Commission for a special permit and site plan approval for 3490 Whitney Ave., to open a cannabis retail establishment.
The retail space is 1,200 square feet within an existing commercial building that was previously used as a clothing store. Other tenants in the commercial building include Talbots and M&T Bank, with 100 parking spaces for commercial customers.
Jananii intends to use the site for retail marijuana sales, with no cultivation, manufacturing or consumption on-site. Hours of operation would be 9 a.m. to 9 p.m.
If approved, this would be the third retail cannabis establishment coming to Whitney Avenue.
In Oct. 2023, Slap Ash Retail won approval to open the first cannabis shop in town at 2607, 2595 and 2591 Whitney Ave. Town land-use officials said that retail center is now open.
Meantime, Higher Collective is in the process of preparing to open a retail site at 3825 Whitney Ave.
