The Connecticut International Auto Show returns to Mohegan Sun this weekend, beginning with an award ceremony Friday morning.

The three-day auto show runs  Friday through Sunday, and the Connecticut Automotive Retailers Association plans to kick off the event with an award presentation and a ribbon cutting at 9:40 a.m. Friday on the show floor at the Mohegan Sun Expo Center.

Department of Energy and Environmental Protection (DEEP) Commissioner Katie Dykes will present the Connecticut Hydrogen and Electric Automobile Purchase Rebate (CHEAPR) 2022 Electric Vehicle Champion Award during the ceremony, which will officially open the show.

This rebate program offers residents up to $9,500 in money back when buying or leasing certain electric vehicles with a manufacturer’s suggested retail price up to $50,000; 8,521 rebates have been issued through the program since it began, according to state data.

According to organizers, more than 20 car manufacturers are scheduled to display their latest models. A “Toyota Ride and Drive Experience”  and exotic vehicles will also be on display.

The auto show first moved to Mohegan Sun in 2018, after previously taking place annually in downtown Hartford’s Connecticut Convention Center.

The move was an example of the increased competition Hartford has faced in attracting conventions and entertainment performances in recent years. Both of the state’s casinos have made heavy investments in those areas, including in new event space.
