Timex Group auctions off private art collection at Middlebury HQ

As it prepares to leave its longtime corporate headquarters in Middlebury, Timex Group is auctioning off part of its private art collection.

The watchmaker has sold its Middlebury facility and plans to move to Shelton by the end of April.

Timex is selling the artwork because of the move, but will retain some of the pieces for its new headquarters, a spokesperson said.

The artwork available for purchase includes landscape prints of New England imagery and abstract works. Timex says the disparate styles reflect the company’s history, from its humble roots as Waterbury Clock Co. to its post-World War II expansion and embrace of modern technology.

“The juxtaposition of these two artistic styles mirrors Timex’s own journey, from a traditional clockmaker to an international force in watchmaking,” the company states in a description.

The auction is live and concludes at 8:05 p.m. today. Local pickup at Timex’s headquarters in Middlebury, along with shipping options, are available.

As of Tuesday morning, there were more than 80 items available, with bids ranging from $1 to more than $250.

Timex sold its Middlebury property at 555 Christian Road to Southford Park LLC in August 2023. The principals of the LLC are David Drubner and Joseph L. Zin.

Southford Park has proposed to build a 670,000-square-foot warehouse on the former Timex property, but the project has been delayed due to a legal challenge.

Timex has signed a lease for more than 50,000 square feet of space in an office building at 6 Armstrong Road in Shelton, but it has not officially relocated yet.
