Top CBIA lobbyist to join Avon lobbying firm

A small Avon-based lobbying firm has landed the top lobbyist from the Connecticut Business & Industry Association. 

Eric Gjede, CBIA’s current vice president of public policy, will be joining Statehouse Associates LLC later this year, the firm announced.

Statehouse Associates is led by Managing Principal Andy Markowski, who is also Connecticut State Director of the NFIB, a trade group that represents small businesses.

Statehouse’s other clients have included the Yankee Institute for Public Policy, Utility Contractors Association of Connecticut, CT Occupational Therapy Assoc., CT Heating and Cooling Contractors and Auto Body Assoc. of CT, among others, according to data from the Office of State Ethics, which oversees lobbying in Connecticut. 

Gjede will join Statehouse Associates sometime in the fourth quarter, Markowski said.

A lobbyist with CBIA for the past 11 years, Gjede has been involved in many issues affecting the state’s business community, including labor mandates, tax and fiscal policy, energy, health care, and unemployment compensation, among many others.

Prior to his work at CBIA, Gjede was an associate legislative attorney with the Legislative Commissioner’s Office, the nonpartisan legal office of the Connecticut General Assembly. He holds a bachelor’s degree from UConn and a law degree from the University of Connecticut School of Law.
