Torrington-based RJB Contracting has moved out of a 14,640-square-foot light industrial building, selling the property for $1.97 million to C.H. Nickerson & Co., another contractor based in the city.
A limited liability company tied to RJB sold the 1972-vintage, one-story building on 3.4 acres at 588 Winsted Road to another LLC tied to C.H. Nickerson in a sale recorded by the city on Jan. 31.
According to its website, RJB provides concrete construction services and builds metal buildings. A company representative said Thursday the company has moved out of the Winsted Road site but is continuing operations.
C.H. Nickerson is a full-service general contractor that was launched in Torrington about 85 years ago. The company has specialized in wastewater treatment plant construction throughout New England since the 1950s. C.H. Nickerson uses its own staff of roughly 180 for most facets of its projects, including concrete, masonry, carpentry and other trades.
Matthew Nickerson, a part-owner of the company, said the newly purchased property will allow his company to move vehicle maintenance and short-term storage from a building on its main campus that currently needs repairs. The Winsted Road building suits C.H. Nickerson’s needs without modification, he said.
“We’ve been in Torrington since 1939 and plan to continue there for many years to come,” Nickerson said.
