Property and casualty insurer Travelers Cos. released its 2023 Community Report on Tuesday, which says the company made $24.4 million in charitable contributions last year.

Nearly 42% of the contributions – $10.17 million – supported Connecticut-based organizations. In addition, Travelers employees volunteered about 18,400 hours in the Nutmeg State.

While Travelers is headquartered in New York City, its largest office is in Hartford.

The company’s 2023 support in Connecticut included co-sponsoring the Bushnell Center for the Performing Arts 2023-24 Broadway Series, which attracted more than 20,000 to the Hartford theater.

Also, Travelers partnered with the Wadsworth Atheneum Museum of Art to give more than 250 Hartford elementary school students an opportunity to see George Balanchine’s “The Nutcracker” and learn about careers in ballet.

The company’s annual PGA Tour tournament in Cromwell, the Travelers Championship, raised more than $3 million for more than 180 nonprofits organizations in 2023. More than 800 Travelers employees donated 20,000 volunteer hours to support the event.

Travelers also provided a $600,000 grant to ReadyCT, a group that advocates for Pre-K-12 education policies and practices that advance academic excellence, to help Hartford-area high school students gain exposure to professional development opportunities.

Travelers hosted 30 students from ReadyCT’s Get Ready Immersive Training program, which provides students with project-based learning experiences in insurance, financial services and technology.

In addition, Travelers sponsored two awards at the Connecticut Invention Convention state finals at UConn in 2023, as it has done in the past.

Travelers also donated a van to Hands On Hartford, a nonprofit organization that serves needy Hartford residents.

Travelers supported many other nonprofits, including Hartford’s reSET, whose mission is to advance the social enterprise sector.

Companywide, Travelers employees logged 103,070 volunteer hours in 2023.

Over the last decade, Travelers has provided $234 million in charitable support across the country.
