The overarching purpose of the 24-hour Vax-A-Thon clinic was to better serve Greater Hartford residents living within zip codes that have been hardest hit by COVID-19 and make up a large portion of the vulnerable populations, with limited access to the vaccine.

Q: Why is the organization a HealthCare Hero?

Trinity Health Of New England spotted the critical need to innovate and expand access to the COVID-19 vaccine. In turn, they launched the one-of-a-kind Vax-A-Thon, the region’s only 24-hour vaccine clinic.

The pop-up clinic removed barriers for many in the Greater Hartford region, offering the COVID vaccine to all eligible individuals, no appointment, no insurance and no ID or confirmation of citizenship needed.

Launching a 24-hour pop-up vaccine clinic while maintaining nearly half-a-dozen existing mass vaccine clinics and various pop-up clinics throughout the state required tremendous cooperative efforts among clinical leaders, colleagues, pharmacy staff, security, IT staff, volunteers and community partners.

We are proud to be the only healthcare organization in the northeast to hold a 24-hour COVID-19 vaccine clinic.”
