Two tribes make digital push for third casino

A digital campaign has been launched by Mashantucket Pequot and Mohegan tribes to bolster their efforts to open a jointly-run commercial casino in Connecticut.

The tribes, working together as MMCT, have begun to investigate four possible locations around Greater Hartford for the site of the state’s third casino. The General Assembly approved legislation last year laying the groundwork for a third Connecticut casino to combat the effects of an MGM casino opening over the state line in Springfield, Mass.

The tribes are seeking to call attention to the more than 1,700 local businesses and thousands of jobs that it said benefit from work at Connecticut's two casinos. The 30-second spot what they claim are the risk that the out-of-state casino, slated to open in 2018, will present to Connecticut’s economy and the people who depend on employment from the in-state gaming facilities.

The tribes also said Connecticut stands to lose 9,300 jobs and more than $100 million in revenue when the MGM facility opens in Springfield based on research conducted by The Northeast Gaming Project.
