An Orange U-Haul business is expanding its Boston Post Road operation after buying a blighted building next door for $3.15 million, brokers said.

The 28,760-square-foot commercial building at 190 Boston Post Road formerly housed a furniture retailer and discount fabric store but has been vacant for several years, according to Colonial Properties. The building sits on 5.57 acres.

The buyer, Amerco Real Estate Company, which runs the U-Haul business, bought building from the estate of Elizabeth Breiner. Colonial Properties was the sole broker.

U-Haul will remain at its current address but was looking for additional land to house its rental vehicles, as well as access to a traffic signal, said Colonial Properties President Michael Richetelli.

“The town is also pleased, as this property is being cleaned up,” he said.
