UB tuition to remain flat for 2023-24 school year

Students attending the University of Bridgeport for the 2023-24 academic year will not see any increase in their tuition or room and board.

President Danielle Wilken said the university’s Board of Trustees’ decision to keep costs the same is part of the university’s commitment to making college affordable.

“We recognize that inflation is significantly impacting families, which in turn impacts our students,” Wilken said. “We are delighted to be able to extend this opportunity once again.”

This is the third consecutive year that the university has held tuition flat, contradicting a recent trend of universities increasing tuition costs.

“I am grateful to our Board of Trustees for their support and their commitment to our students,” Wilken said.

In a recent survey by Encoura (a national research center for college and university admissions) about the college search process, cost was the most important factor in deciding which schools a student is considering, according to Wilken.

Before financial aid or scholarships are applied, tuition at UB for undergraduate students remains at $35,960 for domestic full-time undergraduate students. The average cost of tuition for Connecticut’s public and private colleges and universities is 13 percent higher at $41,442, according to Encoura.

The tuition freeze comes on the heels of a 30 percent increase in enrollment of first-year students in both UB’s School of Engineering and School of Nursing.

Provost Manyul Im said of the cost freeze, “We are grateful to the Board of Trustees for recognizing the financial hardship families are facing. As an institution, it’s critical that we find ways to manage our costs rather than raising tuition, which we have done successfully for the last two years.”
