UberEATS, the division of the online transportation service Uber that allows requesting delivery of food via an app and website, debuted in New Haven Wednesday.

More than 40 of the city’s restaurants are participating, the company said. The app became available for download at 7 a.m. Wednesday.

It’s unclear when or if the delivery service will be extended into Hartford, but the service will be expanding in coming months throughout Connecticut, said Casey Verkamp, general manager for UberEATS Connecticut.

When Uber launched its regular car service in Connecticut, it started in Fairfield County and slowly moved into the Greater Hartford market.

The New Haven food delivery service is requested using the app on either an iOS or Android phone, or by going to the website, ubereats.com. In addition to free delivery on all orders for a limited time, New Haven customers can also get $10 off their first order using the code “CONNEATS,” the company said.

Some of the restaurants that partnered with UberEATS to have their food delivered on request include Soul de Cuba, Junzi Kitchen, Tarry Lodge, Chao Restaurant, and Pacifico.
