As the era of name, image and likeness (NIL) continues to take shape, the University of Connecticut announced Tuesday that it has hired an alum to oversee the business side of athletics.

UConn Director of Athletics David Benedict said the school has hired Bill Guerrero, a 1993 UConn graduate, to serve as senior associate athletic director for financial affairs.

Guerrero has spent the past three years at the University of Bridgeport, where he served as vice president for finance and CFO.

Benedict said Guerrero will oversee athletic business operations, with an emphasis on “enhancing operational efficiencies, strategically managing fiscal affairs and navigating fiscal operations in the rapidly evolving collegiate sports landscape.”

Guerrero graduated from UConn in 1993 with a bachelor's degree in communications. He later earned an MBA in finance from Sacred Heart University, and is completing a doctor of business administration in finance from Grand Canyon University.

He has over 25 years of direct financial, operational and athletic administration experience in higher education, including 10 years as a chief financial officer with expertise in operational efficiency and financial sustainability.

Before serving as CFO at the University of Bridgeport, Guerrero previously held similar positions at Springfield College in Massachusetts and Ithaca College in New York.
