UConn says it’s launching the state’s first engineering-focused graduate degree in entrepreneurship in conjunction with several other colleges.
The new master’s of engineering in global entrepreneurship degree program includes a partnership between the UConn schools of engineering and business, Trinity College and the University of New Haven.
The group will begin recruiting students in the coming months after it develops curriculum, establishes an advisory board and creates a inter-institutional platform. Accepted pupils, recruited across the world, will receive full tuition remission and an annual stipend, among other resources to further their commercial ventures, UConn officials said.
CTNext, a subsidiary of Connecticut Innovations, will support the program, which is also receiving funding from participating schools.
Professors David Noble and Hadi Bozorgmanesh will lead the effort as co-directors.
“This program, and its related initiatives, will be a major step towards bringing in the best and the brightest from all over the world, giving them the tools they need, and turning them into major entrepreneurial advocates for the state of Connecticut,” said Mei Wei, associate dean of UConn engineering.
“If we can bring them in early, train them, and open up doors toward commercialization, then we can literally help create start-ups from scratch, and help them to grow roots in this state,” Wei said.
