Hartford HealthCare-GoHealth Urgent Care on Thursday opened new centers in Old Saybrook and Cromwell, its first locations in Middlesex County.
“Opening two new centers in Middlesex County gives residents a direct link to Hartford HealthCare’s extensive network of high-quality care,” said Dr. Eric Walsh, medical director for Hartford HealthCare-GoHealth Urgent Care.
With the new locations, Hartford HealthCare-GoHealth Urgent Care now has 29 centers in Connecticut. The Cromwell center is located at 28 Shunpike Road, while the Old Saybrook center is at 1687 Boston Post Road (Route 1).
The new centers are the first of several that Hartford HealthCare-GoHealth plans to open in 2024, officials said, adding that they provide a more affordable option for quality care outside of higher-cost settings like a hospital emergency department (ED). According to UnitedHealth Group, urgent care is more than five times more affordable than a visit to the ED.
Dr. Robert Malizia, Hartford HealthCare's regional president, said more centers will open later this year, "including a new center in Southington that is currently slated to open in the spring. We also plan to open new centers in Lisbon, Killingly and Ellington before the end of the year."
Malizia added that, while Hartford Healthcare does not share employment data for specific centers, "on average, Hartford HealthCare-GoHealth Urgent Care employs nine to 12 people at a center. We ensure that we have the appropriate level of staffing at each center based on community needs."
The new centers offer treatment for non-life-threatening illnesses and injuries, X-ray services and diagnostic testing. They are open 365 days a year, including holidays, with regular hours from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m., Monday through Friday, and 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on weekends.
