In a first for a sizable Hartford law firm, Updike, Kelly & Spellacy PC is plumbing opportunities in the state’s eastern corner, with a new office in UConn’s shadow.
Updike Kelly said Tuesday its office at 1733 Storrs Road in the Storrs section of Mansfield debuts July 1. A spokesman said the firm is unaware of any other major Connecticut law firms with a Storrs office.
Long-time Storrs attorney Samuel L. Schrager will head the new office, which also will house another attorney, two paralegals and an administrative aide.
“Our client base has grown significantly in eastern Connecticut, and this new office will allow for the further expansion of our practice in Tolland and Windham counties,’’ President John F. “Jef’’ Wolter said in a statement. “We see a significant opportunity for UKS to provide the local community with access to a wider range of specialized legal services. Our business is about relationships, and the best way for us to further these relationships is to be close to our clients and have an active presence in their communities.”
A 40-year practitioner in business law, trust and estate planning, and real estate law, Schrager is a graduate of Clark University and the University of Miami School of Law.
He is admitted to practice in Connecticut and Florida and is a former adjunct and in-residence assistant professor at UConn School of Business.
