West Hartford is set to make Mansfield Town Manager Matthew Hart its chief town administrator, pending council approval on Monday.
Hart, 52, of Mansfield, would succeed Ron Van Winkle, who retires in July after serving as West Hartford’s town manager since 2008.
Hart’s salary would be $165,000, a West Hartford finance official said.
West Hartford Mayor Shari Cantor, in a statement, called Hart “by far the most qualified candidate and the best fit for this position.”
Hart, who has worked as Mansfield’s town manager since Oct. 2006, first served as assistant to the town manager in 2000, and was promoted to assistant town manager in 2002.
He had a key role in the development of Storrs Center, a mixed-use, New Urbanism project adjacent to UConn’s main campus, and in strengthening the town’s financial position through sound budgeting, capital planning, and debt management, said Cantor.
From 1997 to 2000 he served as Windsor’s assistant town manager.
Hart’s selection concludes an extensive national search that yielded 25 applicants.
Hart earned a law degree and master’s degree in public affairs from UConn. He has a bachelor’s degree in political science from SUNY-Potsdam.
