Wallingford officially has a new home for its townwide school administrative offices.
O,R&L Commercial announced Monday that the town had paid $4.1 million to acquire 4 Fairfield Blvd., a 45,320-square-foot commercial/industrial building located on 3.59 acres directly across from the Wallingford Parks and Recreation Department and its Youth & Social Services Department.
The seller was CT Wallingford Realty Partners, which had acquired the building for $3.24 million in August last year.
In June, the Town Council approved $5.1 million to buy and renovate the building to serve as the new home for its school administrative offices, the board of education, adult education and Wallingford Transition Academy, a special education program.
The school administrative offices currently are located in space it leases at 100 South Turnpike Road, near the Toyota Oakdale Theater. Adult Education is currently located in the old train station at 37 Hall Ave., which the town hopes to lease as part of an economic development plan to revitalize that area of town.
The building at 4 Fairfield Blvd. has an existing tenant, Z-Medica LLC, a medical laboratory that occupies approximately 19,755 square feet and has been in that location for 20 years. The town will occupy the remaining 25,565 square feet.
Town officials have said the building will require renovations to create office space, classrooms, conference rooms and additional bathrooms, among other changes.
