Warren Buffett firm opens E. Granby innovation center

Marmon Engineered Wire & Cable in East Granby said it’s opened a $1.2 million innovation center that will be used by the 14 manufacturers the company comprises.

Marmon, which is owned by Warren Buffet's Omaha investment firm Berkshire Hathaway, said it will use the 16,000 square feet of space on Kripes Road to develop proprietary materials and extrusion technologies for customers who need cables in harsh or extreme environments.

The company plans on having new products generate $20 million in revenue for 2014.

Rob Konnik, Marmon’s chief technology officer, said in a statement that the company is working on low-smoke, zero-halogen ceramic materials to meet fire safety applications in the fossil fuels industry, among others.
