Maine-based VIP Tires & Service has entered the Connecticut market with the acquisition of Joe’s Tire Shop in Waterbury.
The acquisition brings VIP’s total number of stores in New England to 70. It has locations in Maine, New Hampshire, Massachusetts and Vermont.
VIP announced Thursday that Joe’s Tire Shop owner Rich DiBeneditto and his crew will continue as part of the company. The shop is located at 31 Thomaston Ave., and has been in business for more than 95 years.
Tim Winkeler, president and CEO of VIP, said the company is excited about its Connecticut expansion.
“State by state, VIP has become a household name in New England, and we couldn’t be more excited to enter the Connecticut market,” Winkeler said. “Honoring the nearly 100-year legacy of Joe’s Tire Shop, VIP looks forward to serving the people of Waterbury and other Connecticut residents, working with the current Joe’s crew to build on customer relationships that have been cultivated for decades.”
VIP says it is northern New England’s largest privately held automotive service provider and tire dealer. It has more than 700 employees.
A spokesperson said VIP plans to continue expanding in Connecticut.
