After announcing last month it was laying off 37 workers due to losing a major contract with Eversource, a Waterbury-based electrical contractor says it will lay off another nine workers.
In a Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification Act (WARN) notice filed with the state Department of Labor, Feeney Brothers Excavation LLC said it has continued to review its “operational needs” and decided to terminate the employment of the additional workers as of May 2.
The affected workers include a driver, four foreman, two operators and two laborers, the notice states.
All of the layoffs, which now total 46, were deemed necessary after Eversource, one of Feeney Brothers’ largest clients, terminated a contract effective immediately. As a result, the company is performing a “mass layoff” at its Waterbury facility, located at 137 East Aurora St.
No details about the nature of the contract with Eversource have been provided.
For the first 37 layoffs, the initial date of the cuts was April 15, with the rest to be implemented between April 25 and July 31, the company said.
Feeney Brothers is headquartered in Boston and owned by a larger parent company, Atlanta-based Artera Services.
