The state’s first Wegmans food store is expected to open in the summer of 2025 and has begun hiring and training employees, the company announced Thursday.
Wegmans Food Markets Inc. is constructing the new 91,600-square-foot store, which is designed to feel like an “open-air market,” at 675 Connecticut Ave. in Norwalk.
Wegmans’ Norwalk store will employ about 500 people, most of whom will be new employees, the company said.
Full-time positions include entry-level management to customer service positions in bakery, produce, overnight grocery and culinary roles such as chefs and line cooks. Hiring for part-time positions will begin later.
The job postings are available at jobs.wegmans.com.
“Wegmans offers competitive pay with industry-leading benefits, flexible scheduling, and a friendly, positive workplace,” said Store Manager Emily Reynolds, who started her Wegmans career as a part-time cashier over 18 years ago. “We bring new employees on board quickly so they can receive in-depth training on the customer service skills and product knowledge that set our people apart.”
Wegmans, a family-run business based in Rochester, New York, was founded in 1916. It operates 111 stores in New York, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Virginia, Maryland, Massachusetts and North Carolina.
In addition to Norwalk, Wegmans plans to open two other stores in 2024: in Lake Grove, New York and Rockville, Maryland.
