West Hartford approves plan for new Hartford HealthCare medical building on South Main

CoStar This former funeral home property at 136 South Main St. in West Hartford will be knocked down and converted into a Hartford HealthCare medical office.

Hartford HealthCare announced it will build a new 17,000-square-foot medical building on the corner of South Main and Park Road in West Hartford, prompted by the town’s growing population and demand for medical services.

Site plans for the two-story structure at 136 South Main St. were approved last week by the West Hartford town planner. A defunct funeral home at the site will be knocked down and the new building will occupy a slightly larger footprint on the 1.3-acre parcel, with demolition expected to begin this month.

“We are excited about this project — and honored to bring a state-of-the-art medical office building to the town of West Hartford,” Hartford HealthCare said in a statement. “This will offer the community increased access to expert care.”

The project will include new parking, landscaping, lighting and a trash enclosure. The health system also plans to bring back the site’s floral display that was an attraction along South Main Street for years.

The land and existing building was bought by developer 136 South Main LLC (controlled by David H. Raisner and Ronald Webber) for $2 million on June 9, 2020.

We-Ha.com first reported the project.
