West Hartford will take photos of all properties in town ahead of 2026 revaluation

Contributed West Hartford Assessment Office staff members Martyna Srebrna and James Williams will be taking photos of properties as part of a townwide revaluation.

All residential, commercial, industrial and tax-exempt properties in West Hartford should prepare to say “cheese.”

The town Assessment Office said this week it will take high-resolution photographs of all 22,481 real estate parcels in town. The photos are being taken in preparation for the next state-mandated townwide revaluation in 2026.

The current real estate and property tax rate in West Hartford is 40.92. All property is assessed at 70% of its fair market value.

The previous revaluation of town property was completed in 2021. The Town Council chose to phase in the impact of that revaluation over two years.

"West Hartford residents will see town property appraisers taking photos of their property now through October 1, 2026,” said Joseph Dakers Sr., the town’s director of assessment. “Photos are usually taken from the street, and our staff will not enter private property without attempting to notify the property owner first."

While taking the photos, property appraisers will have identification and drive town vehicles marked with the Town of West Hartford logo, officials added. Assessment Office staff members Martyna Srebrna and James Williams will take the photos.

Town officials said accuracy, transparency and efficiency are central principles in property assessment procedures, and that property photos provide not only valuable visual evidence but also “foster trust and understanding during the assessment process.”

The photos will be integrated into the town's assessment database and can be accessed through the town’s assessment website
