What is a granny pod?
Granny pods are small, portable garden cottages installed in a home's yard for an elderly person who is no longer able to live on their own, according to Echo Cottages in Hopewell Junction, N.Y., which makes the temporary healthcare structures.
The pods are built to look like permanent residences with siding, windows and decking, and often include a living room, bathroom, bedroom and kitchen.
The homes also include a safety alarm and warning and panic button systems.
An Echo granny pod costs $64,999 plus delivery and installation.
