Wheeler Clinic, ProHealth ink behavioral health agreement

Plainville-based Wheeler Clinic has entered into an agreement to provide behavioral health services for children and adolescents at the ProHealth ADHD Center in Middletown.

The center, at 400 Saybrook Road, specializes in attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD).

Wheeler will provide on-site diagnosis, rapid assessment, brief treatment intervention and referral, and recommendations for individual and family therapy and behavioral health services, according to a release from Wheeler and ProHealth.

“Wheeler has extensive experience serving youth and adolescents with complex behavioral social, emotional, learning, and behavioral challenges,” Susan Walkama, president and CEO, Wheeler Clinic, said in the release. “Our agreement with ProHealth brings that experience into a setting where families are seeking options for care that complement and support the ADHD and attention disorder treatment they are receiving.”

The ProHealth ADHD Center participates with most insurance plans and cares for children ages 3 and up.

ADHD is the most commonly diagnosed neurodevelopmental condition in children, the release said. ADHD is a treatable biological condition that affects almost 9 percent of children in the United States. Adults can struggle with ADHD, with about 4 percent of the population having this diagnosis.
