A Whole Foods market is likely to anchor the retail portion of a mixed-use development in Cheshire.
Representatives from Regency Centers real estate development group, which is set to purchase the retail area from the project developers, said they have executed a lease with an anchor tenant for the largest 40,000-square-foot space, but did not announce the specific grocer.
In October, the retail project won town land use approval. When discussing building elevations at that meeting, the applicant team mentioned Whole Foods and its specific design aspects.
The 160,000-square-foot retail area will also include large and small storefronts, restaurants, outdoor seating areas and drive-thrus, none of the tenants of which have been confirmed.
Regency representatives said they expect to formally announce tenants in the spring.
The retail portion of the project is currently owned by development team Miller, Napolitano, Wolff LLC and Tri-Star, which is building the massive Stone Bridge Crossing project, with more than 300 luxury residential units in various stages of construction.
Regency Centers is set to buy the area from Tri Star, with construction of anchor spaces completed by the end of 2024, and substantial completion of the entire retail area in 2025, town officials said.
The special development district is set on more than 100 acres near Interstate 691, surrounding the historic Stone Bridge structure. The overall master plan, adopted in 2019, also includes a Homewood Suites hotel and more than 20 acres preserved as open space.
