Bill Roberts is a partner in Shipman & Goodwin's health law practice group and is the chair of the firm's data privacy team. He focuses his practice at the intersection of privacy, technology and the law, with a particular emphasis on the healthcare and insurance sectors.

In doing so, he assists healthcare providers, insurers and technology firms (including software companies, insurtech firms and healthcare technology companies) navigate legal challenges with respect to regulatory compliance, governmental investigations, data breaches and complex contracting. Clients who seek Robert's advice and guidance range from technology startups to Fortune 50 companies.

What's been the biggest professional accomplishment so far in your career?

Building the data privacy practice at my firm, and handling some of the nation's largest data breaches with the great platform we have developed.

How are you involved in the community?

I served as the Canton town representative to the Farmington River Coordinating Committee, an environmental group focused on maintaining and improving the river.

What do you like to do outside of work?

Most of my time outside of work is spent with my family — we like to ski, hike and travel.

Give an example of a people-skills habit you adhere to in your work and daily life that you feel has helped you succeed.

I want every member of our team to feel a sense of ownership over our practice and our clients.

What must the Greater Hartford region do to attract more talented young professionals to the area?
