Two Bristol manufacturers are expanding their footprints in town.

AMKO Precision Aerospace Machining and LAB Security Systems Corp. are erecting additions to their respective buildings, according to the Bristol Development Authority.

AMKO, which moved to Bristol in 2016 and built a 14,784-square-foot manufacturing facility in the Southeast Bristol Business Park, is now building a 4,200-square-foot addition to its property, as it plans to increase its nine-employee workforce, the Bristol Development Authority said.

LAB Security Systems, a longtime manufacturer that specializes in producing lock tumbler pins, lock pin kits, and locksmith tools, will add about 3,100 square feet to its Emmett Street building, the Development Authority said.

That expansion will include 2,085 square feet of manufacturing and storage space, and a 1,020-square-foot covered loading dock.

Both companies have been the beneficiary of city aid.

When AMKO originally built its facility in 2016, the city provided the company with a $66,000 grant, said Dawn Nielsen of the Development Authority. The company is also benefiting from a five-year, 80 percent property tax abatement.

LAB secured a $10,000 grant from Bristol, Nielsen said. Once construction of the addition is completed, the company will get a five-year, 80 percent property tax abatement.

In a statement, Bristol Mayor Ellen Zoppo Sassu touted the city's relationship with manufacturers.

"One of our key roles is to create economic development opportunities and with that, new jobs,"  Zoppo-Sassu said in a statement. "Manufacturing continues to be a major foundation for our economy and we are happy to play a role in these expansions."
