A new Chinese restaurant is joining several other eateries and storefronts at The Shops at Yale in downtown New Haven, in space formerly occupied by Ivy Wok.

The new Nice Day Chinese, at 316 Elm St., offers an elevated version of classic American Chinese cuisine, according to officials from management company Yale University Properties.

The restaurant is located next to Maison B Café and Tomatillo Taco Joint in the Broadway District of downtown New Haven.

Owners Yong Zhao and Wanting Zhang are a husband-and-wife team who both graduated from Yale and are co-founders of Junzi Kitchen, also located in the city’s Broadway area.

Their new space on Elm Street is the former Ivy Wok restaurant, which was a student favorite at Yale before that restaurant owner retired.

This is one of several new commercial retailers at The Shops at Yale.

Earlier this month, The Giggling Pig Art & Party Studio opened at 55 Whitney Ave., and in June, Cookie39 opened its doors at 39 Broadway, next to Urban Outfitters clothing and decor store.

Other retailers at The Shops at Yale include Apple, lululemon, Warby Parker, J.Crew, Derek Simpson Goldsmith, Villa Lulu, More Amour Boutique, Shake Shack, Raggs for Men & Women, and idiom Boutique.
