Yale New Haven Health (YNHH) announced Wednesday it would partner with four local universities to help enroll and graduate nursing students, with an eye on hiring them.
The health system will team up with nursing programs at Fairfield University, Gateway Community College, Quinnipiac University and Southern Connecticut State University. It will formally announce the partnerships on Thursday.
YNHH said it would commit about $1.7 million over the next four years to the deal, providing scholarships and materials to students who otherwise wouldn’t be able to attend school.
With the collaboration, the schools hope to graduate at least 557 more nurses in the next four years, in addition to those already enrolled.
Freshly minted YNHH CEO Christopher O’Connor, who took over from longtime chief Marna Borgstrom this month, is scheduled to speak at the event announcing the partnerships on Thursday.
