YNHH joins fitness challenge for frontline health-care workers

The Yale New Haven Health System this week joined hospitals and medical centers across the U.S. in a nationwide fitness challenge to both encourage people to exercise more and to raise awareness and funding to support frontline health-care workers who have been tried and tested by the public-health emergency posed by the coronavirus pandemic.

#FitForTheFrontLine is a national fitness challenge that began this Tuesday (May 26) and continues through Sunday, June 14 (Flag Day). Anyone can participate: Choose any fitness activity; dedicate your participation to Yale New Haven Health and Yale Medicine; post the donation link; and ask friends, family and social networks to make a donation to show their support.

Proceeds from the #FitfortheFrontLine Challenge will support a special fund at YNHHS that will provide resources to help confront the psychosocial impact of COVID-19 on frontline health-care providers and support staff. The Covid-19 Fit for the Frontline Fund will support continuing mental health and wellness assessments, therapeutic workshops, support groups and individual interventions for physicians and medical and support staff involved in all aspects of patient care during the pandemic at YNHHS hospitals.

“We are delighted to be participating in this nationwide movement in honor of our frontline health-care heroes,” said YNHH CEO Marna P. Borgstrom in announcing the effort. “Their steadfast commitment to our patients and their families, our communities, and each other has never wavered during this extremely stressful time.”

“We are proud and grateful for the selfless dedication and bravery exemplified by our frontline team members and hope that our community will join us in that sentiment by participating in the Fit for the Frontline Challenge,” Borgstrom said.

In participating in #FitfortheFrontLine the YNHH system — including Bridgeport, Greenwich, Lawrence + Memorial, Westerly, R.I. and Yale New Haven hospitals — joins health systems and medical centers across the country in the initiative to raise awareness and resources for health-care workers. These include New York-Presbyterian, Columbia University Irving Medical Center and NYU Langone in New York, Mass. General and Brigham & Women’s Hospital in Boston, and Penn Medicine and Temple Health in Philadelphia.
