Kate Mollison, a mother whose husband died unexpectedly three years ago, has founded a business that helps provide resources for people dealing with loss called On Tuesdays We Wear Black.
She is advocating for a law that mandates private-sector businesses provide eight weeks of bereavement leave annually, with employers covering half of an employee’s compensation during that time.
Only five states — California, Oregon, Illinois, Maryland and Washington — have bereavement leave mandates, according to Evermore, a bereavement advocacy group.
