Gov. Ned Lamont, a self-described centrist Democrat, hinted at the possibility of seeking a third term last week, saying that uncertainty in Washington, D.C., and the possibility of a recession, have increased the chances he will run for re-election.
“If you had asked me a year ago, I would have said, ‘No, I think the state’s on a good trajectory. We’ve stabilized things. We’re growing again. Time to pass the mantle,’” Lamont, 71, told CT Mirror.
Lamont said he loves his job and believes the state has made progress over the last decade. He was first elected in 2018 and began his first four-year term in January 2019. He was reelected in 2022.
Lamont noted that his experience gives him an “edge” over other Democrats who have expressed interest in running for Connecticut’s governor.
