State officials and representatives from Yale New Haven Health and Prospect Medical Holdings have been working on a deal for Yale to acquire Prospect’s three Connecticut-based hospitals – Waterbury Hospital, Manchester Memorial Hospital and Rockville General Hospital – for more than a year.
The state Office of Health Strategy has not yet approved the sale, despite increasing fears about the hospitals’ ability to survive without a speedy takeover following a crippling cyberattack in August. It’s unclear how soon state approval could occur.
Yale has asked Prospect to lower its purchase price, saying the deal they signed a year ago has changed because of “deteriorating conditions” at the facilities. They also told Gov. Ned Lamont they need as much as $80 million from the state.
