Civil engineering is critical in shaping a community’s infrastructure and sustainability. From designing and constructing roads, bridges, and water systems to improving environmental resilience and urban planning, civil engineers ensure that communities function efficiently and safely. Their expertise fosters economic growth, enhances public health, and improves overall quality of life. Barton & Loguidice’s continued investment in engineering and environmental solutions underscores the firm’s commitment to strengthening communities through innovative and sustainable infrastructure development.
Barton & Loguidice (B&L), a leading multi-disciplinary consulting firm, recently relocated its 40-person Central Connecticut office to a newly renovated and expanded space in the Salmon Brook Office Park in Glastonbury. The move accommodates the firm’s ongoing growth and enhances its ability to serve public and private clients throughout the region. One example is the firm’s recent bridge replacement on East Hampton’s Wopowog Road. A severe storm in January 2024 caused the catastrophic failure of this bridge over Safstrom Brook. B&L provided a rapid, environmentally conscious solution to restore this vital connection while navigating ecological and permitting challenges.
The 16,000-square-foot office at 855 Winding Brook Drive occupies the entire second floor, nearly doubling the firm’s previous capacity. The modernized space includes multiple conference rooms for enhanced collaboration and a welcoming environment for employees and clients. Situated just a mile from its previous location, B&L’s office features a two-story atrium lobby and circular front entry.
“With its proximity to downtown Hartford and convenient highway access, this new location positions us for future growth while offering a vibrant and accessible workspace for our team,” said Mark M. Zessin, P.E., senior vice president and Hartford office executive manager at Barton & Loguidice. “Things we considered when designing this new space focused on team engagement and collaborative opportunities, along with a design that favors immersive, tech-enabled environments to address evolving employee expectations. The office also features a scenic setting adjacent to the Salmon Brook Walking Trail, fostering focus and relaxation. B&L’s upgraded work environment improves productivity, and its smarter office layout is pivotal for helping staff achieve our organizational goals.”
While the firm has been servicing commercial and municipal clients for more than 60 years, the Hartford team specializes in the following services:
• Land surveying.
• Environmental assessments/permitting, monitoring, remediation and stormwater management.
• Bridge and highway condition assessment, design and construction administration and inspection.
• Landscape architecture, site development, and land use planning.
• Solid waste and recyclables management, organics and resource recovery facilities, permitting, construction monitoring and transfer station operations, hazardous waste management, environmental compliance and remediation.
• Water resources engineering.
• Architecture and building systems including structural, mechanical and electrical engineering.
John F. Brusa Jr., P.E., president and CEO of Barton & Loguidice, emphasized the strategic importance of the move. “We anticipate continued growth for this region and view this new office as a way to expand our footprint and bring enhanced expertise to the New England area. This investment reflects our commitment to building long-term relationships and providing innovative solutions for our clients.”
Barton & Loguidice continues strengthening its presence in the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic, with over 400 employees across multiple locations. The firm remains dedicated to delivering technical excellence in engineering and environmental services, reinforcing its role as a trusted partner in infrastructure and development projects.
