Since its founding in 1994, CCSN: The Center for Children with Special Needs, has been bringing scientifically valid and evidence-based care to individuals with autism and related neurodevelopmental disabilities across the lifespan. Recognizing this need, over the past 30-plus years CCSN has expanded in Connecticut, with physical locations in Glastonbury and Farmington, as well as providing consultation and educational support throughout the region and internationally.

“Since our founding, it has been a core value to ensure that we are meeting the needs of our patients, their families and their communities,” said Dr. Michael Powers, the center’s Founder and Co-Executive Director. “What started primarily as a psychological practice providing evaluations and consultation has expanded into a multidisciplinary behavioral health organization providing extensive direct care services, as well as ongoing consultative support to school districts, government agencies and businesses.”

Today, CCSN provides center-based services such as treatment based on applied behavior analysis, occupational therapy, speech-language therapy, outpatient psychotherapy, and psychological diagnostic and educational evaluations. CCSN began providing insurance-eligible direct treatment in 2017 and has seen substantial growth in this space.

CCSN’s multidisciplinary treatment model focuses on whole-person care. Understood now as autism spectrum disorder (ASD), the unique needs presented by each patient and their family require unique care plans based on the best science, tailored to meet the needs of each patient and family.

More recently, CCSN launched early childhood centers, focusing on scientifically based and developmentally appropriate early intervention for children with ASD that are generally 2-5 years old. “Seeing these clinics build and launch has been an enormous professional joy,” shared Seth Powers, Co-Executive Director. “Developed and led by our multidisciplinary team of clinical directors, we are seeing tremendous outcomes and gains by our youngest patients.”

In addition to direct care services, CCSN provides consultation to school districts to help address the educational needs of students with complex learning profiles.

“We see districts find that such consultation is cost-effective in reducing what can be expensive outplacement costs, while allowing students to remain in their communities and with their peers,” said Dr. Mark Palmieri, Co-Executive Director.
