Worries over the price of health care are nothing new. Employers have regularly voiced their concerns about costs which is why more and more employers are choosing high-performance – or narrow network – health plans. These health plans deliver more competitive costs for employers while protecting quality of care for their employees – our health plan members. At Aetna® we have done the analysis and selected the high-quality providers that employees or their families can see in network in exchange for lower premiums.
The best networks deliver savings through access to efficient, high-quality providers. Coupled with a plan design that drives member engagement, this encourages the effective use of clinical resources.
Aetna was the first carrier to roll out a national high-performance network. Introduced back in 2016, Aetna Premier Care Network Plus (APCN+) is now one of the most tenured products of its kind in the marketplace. A study on APCN+ reveals details about what a well-crafted high-performance network can deliver, not just to employers but also to plan members. Data analysis* revealed a significant decrease in medical cost trend averaging 14% in the first two years after employers switch to APCN+. The research also showed APCN+ is delivering the value and services that plan members want. For example, the numbers revealed an increase in the use of virtual care options among those with APCN+. And they maintained a strong use of traditional visits as well.
