Klingberg Family Centers

 

MISSION:

To help build healing relationships that empower children and families to reach their full potential.

Klingberg Family Centers is a private, nonprofit organization serving children and families. Founded in 1903, Klingberg served as a “Children’s Home” for boys and girls who were orphaned, abandoned, or whose families were unable to care for them. In 1968, the organization transitioned into a residential treatment center for children and families. In 1986, we began the transition to more community-oriented programs and by 2012, moved totally away from Residential Treatment to a multiservice agency, serving children and families through 20 distinct programs. Klingberg prides itself on always responding to the changing needs of children and families throughout Central Connecticut. We are nimble and care, first and foremost, about the safety and wellbeing of children.

Each year our programs serve over 3,000 individuals whose lives have been traumatized by abuse/ neglect, severe family problems, and behavioral health issues. Our 40-acre main campus is located in New Britain and includes a special- education therapeutic K-12 school, Outpatient Clinic, and Foster Care and Adoption program. We also offer Community Services and a Children’s Advocacy Center from offices in Hartford.

GOALS

  1. Continually improve our service quality to meet the needs of each child and family member we serve.
  2. Demonstrate and elevate our commitment to racial awareness.
  3. Closely evaluate our financial health with the changing landscape of the COVID-19 pandemic.
  4. Explore innovative and collaborative ways to serve the needs of our community.

FUNDRAISING EVENTS/OPPORTUNITIES

In 2022, Klingberg Family Centers will hold its 30th annual Vintage Motorcar Event on its 40-acre hilltop campus. Recently, the show has comprised a Traditional Car Show (pre-1989) and Pre-War Concours d’Elegance (pre-1942). In keeping with the agency’s mission, the event is known for its family activities, including face painting, crafts, and lawn games. Over the years, thanks to generous sponsors, car owners, spectators, and volunteers, Klingberg Family Centers has raised over $4 million through the Vintage Motorcar Series.

“The Klingberg Motorcar Series is known for its top-notch events,” said Michael Donnelly from The Paddock Classic Car Restorations. “The experience for both exhibitors and the public was outstanding, and I know I speak for many others when I say that we’re looking forward to the next one.”

GIVING OPPORTUNITIES

Klingberg has 20 distinct programs for kids and families and a major fundraising event, providing many opportunities to become involved. Common opportunities are volunteering, mentoring, serving on the board and on various committees, helping raise awareness of Klingberg, and fundraising.

VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES

Klingberg Family Centers relies on volunteers in many ways, including employee groups working on campus on indoor and outdoor projects, and groups or individuals volunteering to help with our vintage car events.

POST PANDEMIC

The pandemic had a tremendous impact on all of our programs, requiring our staff to respond with creativity and determination to ensure the continued safe and effective treatment of children and families. Through it all we have been reminded of the importance of our goals and priorities, and we will continue to work until these are accomplished.
