Leon RisCassi and William Davis founded RisCassi & Davis PC in 1955, at a time when the law severely limited the rights of plaintiffs. Despite those early headwinds, the firm has evolved into a powerhouse of personal injury law, setting itself apart through its tireless pursuit of justice and a laser-sharp focus on excellence.

Its history is marked by groundbreaking cases that have helped to shape laws and protect consumer rights in Connecticut. They include the tragic collapse of the Hartford Civic Center in the late 1970s to recent cases involving defective medical devices, a fatal tour-bus accident in England and the Kleen Energy power plant explosion.

Today, the firm handles a range of cases, from motor vehicle accidents to medical malpractice. But clients can expect more than just effective legal representation from the attorneys at RisCassi & Davis. The firm’s team listens to each client, answers all their questions, digs into the details of every case and works collaboratively to determine the best course of action, whether it means negotiating a settlement or preparing for trial. RisCassi & Davis want to ensure clients understand the legal process, their rights and the potential outcomes.

“When a person calls or visits the law firm, we ensure they receive the best we can offer,” said partner John J. Houlihan Jr., who joined the firm in 1979 as a summer intern and has gone on to win verdicts totaling hundreds of millions of dollars for his clients.

As a group, the firm’s attorneys have earned impressive accolades. Five have been admitted to the American College of Trial Lawyers and, in 11 of the last 13 years, at least one lawyer from the firm has been named Lawyer of the Year in Hartford by the Best Lawyers rating service. Other marks of distinction include the firm being named a Tier One law firm by Best Law Firms every year since the designation was first offered 14 years ago.

Success has brought more than recognition, however. It has also spurred growing demand for the firm’s services, which has led to new offices. RisCassi & Davis now has locations in Hartford, Avon, Glastonbury and Middletown and plans to open more as the need arises.

And as it has done for nearly seven decades, the firm plans to maintain a team of Connecticut’s best trial lawyers while raising the bar for the practice of personal injury law.

Community service has been a hallmark of the firm, as well. RisCassi & Davis has long supported the University of Connecticut School of Law, where the firm’s attorneys also teach trial advocacy. In addition, the firm has given years of support to the Calhoun Cardiology Center and the Neag Cancer Center at the University of Connecticut. The firm has also hosted large food drives in Hartford for families in need and offered support to organizations such as MADD, the Open Hearth, Billings Forge, the Center for Children’s Advocacy, the Connecticut Children’s Medical Center and Big Brothers Big Sisters, among others.

“These efforts underscore our commitment to making an impact beyond our legal practice,” said partner Paul Iannaccone, who serves on the Board of Trustees at the University of Saint Joseph.
