Dear Connecticut Business Community,

Recently I returned to my home state to become the new leader of Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield in Connecticut, a role that has already been so rewarding for me personally
and professionally. I have met so many great state leaders, clients, and partners, and have had time to assess our capabilities as an organization nationally and locally. As I
reflect on my initial months and look toward the future, I am truly excited about our ability to impact the marketplace and provide distinguished value to our business partners.

At Anthem, our mission is to improve the health and the lives of our members while contributing to the growth of the communities we serve. Our mission is anchored by our vision to be the most innovative, valuable, and inclusive partner in the insurance sector. I am reaching out to share three key differentiators that set Anthem apart from our competitors and make us the best choice for your business in the short and long term.

1. Offering the Anthem Whole Health Connection.

A healthy person is so much more than a visit to the doctor. That’s why we look at the big picture when it comes to member health. When you choose us, you gain access to a full suite of products for your employees, including: medical, dental, pharmacy, vision, behavioral health, life, disability, wellness programs, as well as clinical and administrative support services. Situated in the Insurance Capital of the World, Anthem, the largest health insurer in Connecticut, is best positioned to deliver an unrivaled network for this full suite of benefits. When you offer your employees more coordinated benefits, it means less redundant care and helps to deliver savings for you and better health outcomes for them. Take a few examples: $368 average lower medical costs when integrating pharmacy and medical benefits;1 $5,681 lower costs per vascular condition when periodontal disease is also treated;2 20% higher medical costs related to diabetes care when vision benefits are not also used.3

2. Delivering value through our size and scale.

Anthem has been serving Connecticut for more than 85 years, and with the relationships and depth of experience built over this time, we know how to work on your behalf to deliver better outcomes, resulting in real medical savings. Almost 80% of our customers in Connecticut are enrolled in Administrative Services Only (ASO) programs, which means they self-fund their employee benefits and we administer them. We take this responsibility seriously and that’s why we are champions for value-based care. Anthem networks include 96% of physicians and 97% of hospitals in-network across the state of Connecticut. The dollars flowing through these providers are dollars that will deliver added value. We have and will continue to leverage these relationships to build value-based models, which improve outcomes and lower your total cost of healthcare while maintaining – or even improving – the quality of care your employees receive. You can count on us to help manage and provide the benefits your employees need to achieve and maintain good health while making your healthcare dollars work harder.

3. Embracing innovation.

Technology is the future of healthcare, and we are innovating now to prepare for what’s ahead. Our digital platform, Sydney Health, delivers a smarter, simpler, more personal healthcare experience for your employees. With Sydney, members have a healthcare ally within reach to provide them with key access to the latest strategies and treatment options. It enables better care coordination, while also encouraging preventative care and motivating healthy habits.

We know many employers like you across Connecticut are making decisions about who to partner with to deliver healthcare for your business in 2022 and beyond. There are many reasons to consider Anthem as your partner in healthcare. Anthem combines a premier strategy with an unparalleled scope of products and services and drives it all through the most comprehensive and dynamic network of providers within the state and nationwide. We hope you will consider Anthem, and I invite you to reach out if you have any questions about what we can do to help you achieve all of your goals and provide a “Whole Health” solution for your company.

Wishing you good health,
Lou Gianquinto, President, Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield in Connecticut
