The Governor’s Prevention Partnership is a statewide nonprofit organization that equips, empowers, and connects organizations, communities, and families, to prevent substance abuse, underage drinking, and violence among youth, and promotes positive outcomes for all young people in Connecticut. Created in 1989, the Partnership is a partnership between government and business leaders.
For more than 30 years, the Governor’s Prevention Partnership has been at the forefront of youth prevention in Connecticut. What started as a focus on the effects of drugs in the workplace has evolved to respond to the emerging threats that face Connecticut’s young people, including vaping, marijuana, chronic absenteeism, alcohol, and bullying. In 2021, we improved mentor recruitment by making it a part of the State of Connecticut’s “Step Up” campaign, which connects volunteers to organizations during the COVID-19 pandemic. We also expanded our capability to host large-scale virtual events, with the 2021 Connecticut Mentoring Summit, presented entirely online, and featuring mentoring practitioners and experts from all over the country.
Every year, The Governor’s Prevention Partnership hosts a recognition event for its partners in the fall. This year’s event is December 9th and will be held virtually. If your business would like to participate, please contact Events@PreventionWorksCT.org.
Invest in prevention for Connecticut’s youth. There are many partnership opportunities available for businesses to become a partner in prevention. Please visit preventionworksct.org for partnership levels and associated benefits.
Bring prevention to the workplace. The Partnership’s team of prevention professionals can offer virtual informational sessions for employees on topics such as how to talk to your children about substance use.
Become a mentor. You can become a mentor where you live or work, or your company can adopt mentoring as one of its areas of giving back. The Governor’s Prevention Partnership provides assistance in setting up these programs and connecting you to local mentoring programs.

Our service delivery model evolved as we became more familiar with virtual platforms during the pandemic. That has allowed us to reach exponentially more people around Connecticut with trainings, conversations, and large events. It has lowered the barrier of entry, both in time and cost.
We have begun a series of “Rapid Response Conversations” to address current events in a way that can help families and mentors talk to young people about what they see on the news.
We have also refreshed our organizational values to better reflect our commitment to the people we serve. We envision all of these changes sticking, regardless of the status of the pandemic, as they have strengthened our organization and our connection to the people we serve.
“One of the honors of being Governor is continuing the tradition of serving as co-chair of The Governor’s Prevention Partnership.”
