YWCA Hartford Region

MISSION:

YWCA Hartford Region is dedicated to eliminating racism, empowering women and promoting peace, justice, freedom and dignity for all.

YWCA Hartford Region has been serving the community for more than 150 years. Our programs and services include affordable housing and safe shelter; early learning and school age programs; youth development and leadership training; college and career support for women; community engagement and advocacy; and a variety of initiatives designed to dismantle systemic racism and gender inequities in historically marginalized communities.

We uphold a workplace culture that is consistent with our values and mission, and that supports employees in reaching their full potential. YWCA Hartford Region serves nearly 2,000 women, girls and families per year.

GOALS

YWCA Hartford Region envisions a community with unlimited opportunities to un-limit opportunity. To realize that vision, our goals for 2022 include:

  • Empower women to emerge from the pandemic achieving economic mobility and independence.
  • Equip individuals of all ages with the tools needed for self-advocacy, engaging their community, and creating systemic change.
  • Prepare young children for elementary and secondary education by laying a strong educational, social and emotional foundation.
  •  Support girls (13-18) in gaining the developmental, leadership and life skills needed to attain post-secondary education and career success.
  • Make homelessness rare, brief, and non-recurring for women and other individuals.

FUNDRAISING EVENTS/OPPORTUNITIES

In the Company of Women is YWCA Hartford Region’s signature annual fundraising event. Proceeds support programs and services for young girls, women and families. This event brings together over 1200 diverse business and community members, local leaders and elected officials in support of the YWCA mission to empower women and eliminate racism. Pre-event, attendees network, shop women and Connecticut owned businesses at the Persimmon Plaza Expo, and enjoy a light lunch before being inspired by a dynamic keynote speaker.

Opportunities for sponsorships, ticket sales and individual donations are available. We look forward to the 27th In the Company of Women luncheon on April 7, 2022.

GIVING OPPORTUNITIES

YWCA welcomes monetary and in-kind donations throughout the year to support program participant needs. Nonperishable food items, linens, and personal hygiene products and other essential items benefit residents in our emergency women’s shelter and Soromundi Commons. Gift cards to local grocery and department stores and books benefit young girls and women. Businesses and corporations are invited to provide financial support through sponsorship, in-kind services, and volunteering. In addition to our luncheon, support is needed for our annual Stand Against Racism and Week Without Violence campaigns.

POST PANDEMIC

YWCA is not just an organization; we are a Movement. Over the past year, we have evolved in ways that allowed us to stay virtually connected to our participants.

We have also focused our attention and amplified our strategies to help women rejoin the workforce. For example, our YW Career Women Digital Skilling program will partner with businesses to create pathways for women to secure economic self-sufficiency through accelerated technology training programs. We continue to develop meaningful partnerships that will enable our participants to add value to the workforce.
